The Hutt Multicultural Council (HMC) proudly celebrated the vibrancy and depth of Chinese heritage with the Multidimensional Chinese Culture Performance, held on 20 April 2025. Hosted by the dedicated and talented duo Haiying and Ziwei Wang, the event featured over 25 captivating performances that brought Chinese history, tradition, and community spirit to life.
The showcase welcomed a broad spectrum of participants, from young children to elders in their 80s, reflecting the strength and richness of the Chinese community across the Hutt Valley.
The performance was a cultural journey through centuries of heritage. It opened with a Chinese costume showcase, tracing the evolution of attire through ancient dynasties. Audiences were then treated to choral singing and traditional dances representing China’s 56 ethnic groups, each performance a tribute to unique customs and living traditions.
Highlights also included demonstrations of Tai Chi and Rouliqiu, offering insight into Chinese philosophies on well-being and harmony. The program concluded with a powerful and moving performance by a community band of elder musicians, who played ancient Chinese instruments with some dating back thousands of years adding timeless depth and authenticity to the evening.
Together, these elements formed a multidimensional portrait of Chinese culture, weaving together history, music, health practices, ethnic diversity, and intergenerational participation. The event offered a colourful, meaningful, and unforgettable experience for all in attendance.
HMC thanks Haiying and Ziwei Wang, all performers, volunteers, and community supporters for making the event a success and for continuing to strengthen cultural understanding and celebration in the Hutt.
